Sodium Lights

and we stagger home. Why not?
cast our filthy shadow on a garage door.
“My place is closer, ” nothing more.
Your lovelight eyes cast toward the floor.

” The ground, you mean.” You’re right…
Reading me all night to same effect.
And crash we go into aluminum corregate
shatter the black of a silent night.
and on cracks an overhead sodium light,
buzzing like electrolytes, infecting
scene and romantic hum
it’s glum and horrible,
this neighbourhood,
this salty city.

This moment disgusts me,
Now and forever. Something to remember when I’ve gone numb.
